We helped ZestCapital revitalize RandGallery into an industry-leading web3 NFT marketplace on the Algorand blockchain
RandGallery, once a simple NFT marketplace operated by a one-man team, blossomed into the largest NFT marketplace on the Algorand blockchain during the crypto bull run. Recognizing its market position, ZestCapital acquired RandGallery, aiming to rejuvenate the brand and capitalize on web3 advancements.
Before ZestCapital's acquisition, RandGallery had carved out a niche for itself within the Algorand ecosystem. ZestCapital saw immense potential in RandGallery's market leadership. Through the acquisition, ZestCapital injected resources into RandGallery, building a dedicated team to transform it into a personified web3 brand.
Goals & Objectives
The primary objective was to make it easier for users to engage in NFT projects, from creation to buying and selling. Specific goals included:
- Rebuilding the RandGallery brand
- Developing a React component library for UI consistency
- Creating Rand Tools for NFT projects on Algorand
- Building Rand Drops as a no-code solution for NFT drops
The rebrand was pivotal in positioning RandGallery as a serious player capable of bridging web2 audiences with web3.
Process & Insights
Over a nine-month timeline, the project began with building a component library using NextJS and Storybook, ensuring UI/UX consistency. Following this, our team and the RandGallery team developed Rand Tools for seamless NFT project management on Algorand, including minting and wallet integration. Additionally, Rand Drops was developed as a no-code solution empowering creators to effortlessly launch NFT drops.
Continuous feedback loops were employed, with preview versions regularly shared with the internal team for review and feedback.
Algorand's blockchain was chosen due to its low gas fees, carbon neutrality, and robust technology created by Turing Award Winner Silvio Micali. The development stack also included GCP, Sentry.io, and Firebase on the backend.
Results & Impact
RandGallery experienced a surge in user engagement with hundreds of NFTs being created using the service. The platform differentiated itself through its branding, ease of use, professional team, and engaging UI. Collaborations with popular artists like Hans, who launched his food-inspired collections, further elevated the platform's status.
With a strong foundation and a solid team, RandGallery is poised for continued success. There is optimism surrounding future integrations and market expansion.
Learnings & Takeaways
One key learning is the importance of building a component library for companies focused on branding. It is crucial in streamlining development and ensuring brand consistency.
